RAPT Meeting: May 31


Track and Field

It was great to see all the students out at the Rippleton Track and Field Meet on May 18th. The weather could not have been better. From this meet, the Rippleton Team was choosen and will be competing at the area meet on May 25th. Good luck Team!

Scholastic Book Fair





The annual Scholastic Book Fair runs all this week in the library from 9am to 4pm. Students will be given an opportunity to purchase books during school or parents can visit with their children after school or at the Open House.

1. RAPT Welcome
Call to Order at 6:18pm


2. Principal Update

a) Staffing & Enrollment
A position has been posted for a 0.5 Music and 0.5 Arts teacher for the 2011-12 school year. There will be no surplus of teachers and teaching assignments have been established.

b) EQAO
• Grade 6 EQAO will be held on May 31, June 1 & 2
• Grade 3’s the following week on June 6, 7, and 8

c) Grade 6
Grade 6 Ottawa trip will occur June 8-10

d) School Events
• In school Track & Field Meet will occur May 9 (rain date May 12) with the area Meet on May 25. This is intended for students in Grades 2-6 however there has been consideration to allow the Gr. 1 students to participate at the in-school Meet. Parent Volunteers will be required. Anyone available and interested should see Ms. Meijer.
• Running club will begin and run in conjunction with Track & Field practice
• Jump Rope / Hoops for Heart being held on May 6
• Ballet Jorgensen will be in the school on May 11. This is the last of the RAPT sponsored performances for this year. We should look at booking next year’s performances by the end of June.
• Open House will occur on May 5. Watch for the theme throughout the classrooms: Care to the Earth – The Woman who Outshone the Sun

e) Grounds update
• Jumping pits have been temporarily relocated for Track & Field.
• Nature Study Area/ Outdoor classroom has been installed
• New parking lot posts are being installed
• Grass seed is beginning to germinate

f) Community Events
• Dr. Karen Gordon will be speaking at York Mills CI at 7pm, April 28 in Titan Hall on Raising Teens in an age of Overindulgence
• Gerry Gershon will hold her next Ward Forum meeting on May 3 at York Mills Collegiate, 7-9pm

g) Other
• All primary and junior teachers have completed workshops for Read and Write Gold: Assistive Technology. This program is free to download at home (password can be obtained from the school). It will transfer text to speech and provide research assistance components
• With warmer weather, parents and students should be cognizant of the dress code
• For safety reasons the Playscape is shut before and after school until 4pm


3. Budget / Treasurer Report

There has been no change to our budget since last RAPT Meeting.
(From March Meeting: Total Revenue after operating expenses is approximately $24,000. RAPT expenditures have included: $10,000 on teacher wish lists, $8000 on the Scientist in the School Program, $500 for Grade 6 Graduation and sponsoring two cultural shows for the students. We currently have $3000 of available cash. $13,000 has been set aside for Master Plan work)


4. PRO Grants Application

Application for the Grant must be submitted mid-May. Options were discussed with internet bullying and safety being a topic to consider. We must determine if we apply for a grant for Allyson Shaffer again.
Lucy will speak with Tony Lee to see if we can book Allyson Shaffer again and follow up regarding possible additional Grant funds.

We will also look at booking Officer Neil next fall to give a talk on Internet Safety.


5. BBQ / Book Fair / Open House

• Scholastic books are arriving on Friday and volunteers are being recruited. Book Fair will run from May 2-9. Mr. Webb indicates a grant may be available from scholastic.
• BBQ is scheduled from 5-6:15 and the Open House from 6:15 -7:30. Volunteer sheet has been posted on the RAPT Bulletin Board.
• Principal Adaskin will check with the Grade 6 students to see if they want to participate in face painting as a possible fundraiser.


6. Fundraising Models
Discussion occurred on the Fundraising Models developed at the April 13 Fundraising Meeting. Please see attachment regarding approved Fundraising Plan for 2011-12.

Annual BBQ and Open House

BBQ Food Tickets

Reminder: BBQ food ticket sales continue until Tues May 3. $6 will get you a hamburger (or veggie burger) drink and chips. The price will increase to $7 at the event. Tickets are sold from 8:15-8:45 and 3:00 - 4:00 outside the school office.
